Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore first baseman Erika Garcia finished a solid two year career with the Saints and has signed with Nova Southeastern University for the 2012-13 season. She will have two years of eligibility.
"We are happy for Erika to be moving on to such a quality school," said SF Coach Chris Ahern. "We will miss her leadership, but know she will make an immediate impact for the Sharks. We wish her all good things and know she can do anything she puts her mind too."
Garcia finished her career at Santa Fe with 20 homeruns, ranking her 3rd all-time behind Gia Tomossone (22) and Sherquita Bostick (21). Her 79 career RBI puts her 8th all-time at SF.
As a freshman, Garcia hit .290 with 10 homeruns and 41 RBI. In 2012, she nearly equaled those numbers during a sophomore campaign that saw her hit 10 homeruns and drive in 38
She joins a Nova team that finished the 2012 season 33-22 overall and 13-10 in the Sunshine State Conference under the direction of Head Coach Lesa Bonee. The Sharks compete at the NCAA Division II level.
