A Day to Welcome Joey to the World

Omari sat at attention at her regular post. A figure peeked stealthily out from around her side.
Then, Jonathan Miot sneezed.
“Sorry, joey,” he said too late. The tiny face was long gone.
The baby kangaroo, known as a joey, was born to 3-year-old Omari and 4-year-old Tep Tep, a pair of Matschie’s tree kangaroos at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo. The baby’s birth, sometime in November, will be celebrated Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the zoo’s Tree Kangaroo Awareness Day.
