Spring Commencement Honors SF Graduates May 4

Santa Fe College will hold commencement and pinning ceremonies at the Northwest campus Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4. Approximately 1,275 students have applied to graduate this spring, including 26 BAS graduates of the Health Services Administration bachelor's program and 39 High School Dual Enrolled students earning AA degrees before their high school diplomas.

At the Nursing Pinning Ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the gymnasium, Nursing faculty will "pin" 153 graduates of Santa Fe's three nursing programs (117 graduates of ASN, 16 from Bridge, and 20 from the PN program). A "pinning" is a traditional nursing ceremony recognizing newly graduated nurses. Each nursing school has their own distinct pin. Graduates will be dressed in white nursing uniforms and carry white roses.

At 3 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the gymnasium, nursing graduates will join with about 100 other graduates from all of Santa Fe's Health Sciences programs to "walk" in their caps and gowns at the Health Sciences Commencement.

The Santa Fe Teaching Zoo will graduate 38 student zookeepers form the Zoo Animal Technology program at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Fine Arts Hall.

The main commencement for graduates of all other programs, including High School Dual Enrollment, occurs at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 in the gymnasium. About 350 students are expected to "walk."

The guest speaker is Ms. Kathleen Shanahan Chair, Florida State Board of Education. Bagpiper Benjamin A Pugh will perform, along with the Gainesville Brass Quintet. A musical interlude will be conveyed by the Santa Fe Singers under the direction of Lynn Sandefur – Gardner.

Come celebrate with us, but please arrive early, as ceremonies tend to be crowded.
