SF FASTPITCH – 5/2/2012
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (35-25) finished just short of a berth in the NJCAA national tournament but a successful run to the Atlantic District finals earned two SF players a spot on the FCSAA All-Tournament team.
First baseman Karla Claudio led all Santa Fe hitters, batting .500 (8-for-16) with two homeruns, five RBI, two doubles and seven walks, three of them intentional. Her best game came against Miami Dade where she went 3-for-4 with a homerun, double, three runs scored and two RBI.
Outfielder Brittney Mayhill hit .333 (6-for-18) with a homerun, four RBI and three runs scored. Her homerun, the first of her career at any level, came against Seminole State College on Sunday morning and helped force a decisive game two against the Raiders.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Coach Chris Ahern also recognized another player that
had an outstanding weekend. Erika Garcia pitched nearly every inning for the Saints, finishing with a 4-1 record. She threw 31.5 frames and had a 2.44 ERA. Not only did she pitch, but she was also one of the top hitters for SF. She hit .333 (6-for-18) with two homers, three RBI, two doubles and four runs scored.
