Baseball Set to Play SCF on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 PM

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #2/NJCAA #18 Santa Fe Saints (36-11, 18-5 MFC) have waited nearly two weeks between games and on Thursday, May 3 they will finally take the field for the FCSAA State Tournament against State College of Florida at 7:00 PM. Every game of the tournament can be watched live on www.psblive.com.

The Saints enter the State Tournament as the Mid-Florida Conference champions for the fourth consecutive year. SF is led by MFC Pitcher of the Year Brad Markey (10-3, 1.45 ERA), MFC Defensive Player of the Year Jacob Tillotson (.284, 9 2B, 21 RBI) and regular season team MVP Shane Kennedy (.381, 9 2B, 8 3B, 8 HR, 40 RBI). As a team, the Saints hit .314 with 31 homeruns, 88 doubles and stole a team record 99 bases. The pitching staff was stingy all season, boasting a Santa Fe College record 2.21 ERA.

SF needs two wins to set the all-time mark of 38 in a season.

Markey will take the hill Thursday night against Manatees sophomore right hander Dayan Rodriguez. Rodriguez enters the contest with a 3.66 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched. He struck out 51 batters and surrendered 87 hits in 16 starts.

Win or lose, the Saints second game will take place on Friday, May 4 at a time to be determined.

The winner of the tournament will represent the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO. Santa Fe last appeared in the World Series in 2009, finishing as runner-up to Howard College.

A tournament pass is $25.00. A day pass, good for a day of games, is $10.00. Admission for the last game only will be $5.00. Parking is free.
