Fastpitch Defeats Miami-Dade 7-5 at the FCSAA Tournament

Pensacola, FL – Santa Fe College hung on against Miami Dade College Friday afternoon at the FCSAA State Tournament, pulling out a 7-5 round one victory over the Sharks to advance in the winner's bracket of the double elimination tournament. Follow tonight's game on Dakstats Gametracker.
The Saints (32-23) struck first, piling up four runs in the first inning. Ashley Holton stated the big frame with a double and Erika Garcia followed her up with a home run to center field. Karla Claudio kept the rally going, doubling to left center and Kim Booker plated two more with a deep home run to left, giving SF a 4-0 lead.
In the second Garcia singled and Claudio belted a homers to up the Saints advantage to 6-0.
The Sharks didn't give in and scored two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to trim the lead to 6-5.
Santa Fe answered back in the fifth, scoring one on a Brittney Mayhill infield single with the bases loaded.
SF pitcher Erika Garcia ran in to trouble in the fifth, but worked out of a jam to hold the two run lead. The Sharks went one two three in the sixth and in the seventh had a runner on with one out, but couldn't push the tying runs across.
Claudio started in the circle and pitched 2.2 innings before giving way to Garcia. Garcia pitched 4.1 innings to earn the win.
Claudio led the offense with a 3-for-4 day, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Garcia was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, Holton finished 2-for-4 with a double, Kim Booker was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and Bianca Torres was 2-for-2 with two walks.
The Saints advance in the winner's bracket to face Florida State College – Jacksonville at approximately 5:00 PM CST (6:00 PM EST). SF and FSC-J met four times this year with the Stars taking three.
