MARKEY STIFLES ST. JOHN'S, SAINTS OFFENSE EXPLODES IN 11-0 VICTORY

Gainesville, FL -Sophomore pitcher Brad Markey (9-3) was nearly unhittable on Saturday afternoon, holding St. John's River State College to just one hit over six inning in a seven inning 11-0 mercy rule win for Santa Fe. Dylan Barrow closed out the game in the seventh. The win clinches the Saints (33-11, 15-5 MFC) a spot in the FCSAA State Tournament May 3-7 in Lakeland.

Shane Kennedy led a potent SF offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

"Markey was outstanding again today," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. "We played errorless defense and came through with some big hits with runners on base. That was Santa Fe baseball today."

Santa Fe opened the scoring in the first with two runs on a delayed steal of home by Mallex Smith and a sacrifice fly by Caleb Denmark.

In the second Graham Ramos drilled a solo homerun to make it 3-0 SF. An inning later Denmark broke the game open with a two run homer and Smith scored again on another error by the Vikings defense to put the Saints ahead 6-0.

Two innings later in the fifth, Santa Fe tacked on two runs on RBI singles by Shane Kennedy and Trey Griffin.

In the seventh AJ Mazzurco nailed a two run double and Blake Berger capped the game with a pinch hit RBI single.

Kennedy was the lone Saints with multiple hits, finishing 3-for-3. Denmark was 1-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI, Mallex Smith was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and Ramos finished 1-for-3 with a homerun.

The Saints return home on Monday for a game against MFC rivals Seminole State College at 3:00 PM.
