Construction Students Lend a Hand

April 14, 2012

The SF Organic Gardeners student organization is thankful to Justin MacDougall, Coordinator, Apprenticeship Programs (not pictured), and Building Construction Technology students (kneeling, left to right) Nick Linberg,Dwayne Griffis and Will Harrison, for constructing a garden shed for the group's use.

The students appealed to Student Government last spring for overflow funds to purchase materials for the shed; it's taken until now to fit the work in with our construction students' schedules. The plans and location of the small-but-tall shed, complete with window, were approved by Bill Reese in Facilities. It sits behind the M Auditorium, tucked into a protected area, safe from high winds but convenient to the garden. The group will use the shed for storage of their wheelbarrow, tools, organic fertilizers, seeds, gardening books, etc.

"It's nice that we can help out other members of the school," said Linberg.

"It's good. We can get a little bit of extra experience," said Williams.

The Organic Gardeners are also working with The Gallereans, who have designed and are constructing a mosaic sculpture for the garden.

If anyone on campus would like to assist the group and/or mentor the beginning gardeners, please contact their adviser, Julie Garrett, 395-5430, or Club PresidentJeanne Dickman at jmilkacow@gmail.com.
