CONEY AND EDWARDS SIGN WITH UPPER DIVISION SCHOOLS
Gainesville, FL – For the first time in six years, Stephenie Coney (pictured right) and Stephanie Edwards (pictured left) will not be playing basketball on the same team. The two high school teammates at Miami Norland and college teammates at Santa Fe have signed letter of intent to play at Armstrong Atlantic State University and Jacksonville University respectively for the 2012-13 season.
Coney, an FCSAA All-State performer, will join former Saints Demisha Mills at Armstrong Atlantic. She averaged a team high 12.9 points per game, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in 2011-12.
Armstrong, a NCAA II school located in Savannah, GA, finished 2011-12 with a 13-13 overall record and a 7-11 mark in the Peach Belt Conference under Coach Mat Schmidt.
Edwards, a MFC Second Team honoree, has inked with NCAA I school Jacksonville University. She was second on the team in scoring with 9.8 points per game and also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
The Dolphins finished 11-20 overall and 8-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference under the leadership of Coach Jill Dunn in 2011-12. Former Saints Tracie Snead currently plays for JU.
"I am very happy for these two young ladies," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. "I know both coaching staffs will help them continue to grow and ultimately graduate with a bachelor's degree. I am proud that Stephanie and Stephenie are continuing our solid tradition of sophomores moving onto upper division schools."
