SAINTS FALL 5-4 TO FSC-J FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DEFEAT
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints, the new #1 ranked team in the FCSAA poll, fell for the second game in a row, this time to Florida State College – Jacksonville by a score of 5-4. SF now holds a two game lead over College of Central Florida in the Mid-Florida Conference race with five games to play. Santa Fe can clinch a FCSAA State Tournament spot with a win in their next game or a Daytona loss.
The Saints (32-11, 14-5 MFC) drew nine walks and pounded out 11 hits, but left 14 men on base, failing to come through with runners in scoring position.
Felix Roque started on the hill and pitched three innings, surrendering three runs on six hits. Lawrence Pardo threw 2.2 innings and allowed two runs and JT Simpson pitched the final 2.1 innings. Pardo took the loss for Santa Fe.
The Stars got on the board first, plating runs in the first and third innings for a 3-0 lead. The Saints answered in the fourth with a run on a Garrett Greenwell double and two in the fifth on a sac fly by Tim Remes and a bases loaded walk by Trey Griffin to knot the score at 3-3.
FSC-J scored two in the sixth to retake the lead 5-3. Jacob Tillotson knocked Mallex Smith home in the eighth to cut the deficit to 5-4, but the Saints would get no closer.
Smith finished the game 3-for-5, Tillotson was 2-for-3 and Remes 2-for-4.
The Saints will travel to St. John's River State College on Saturday, April 14 for a 1:00 PM game.
