SAINTS CRUISE PAST ST. JOHNS 9-3, WIN TENTH STRAIGHT

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints jumped out to a 9-0 lead on Sunday afternoon against St. John's River State College and cruised to a 9-3 win. The victory is the tenth in a row for SF and gives them a two game lead over the College of Central Florida in the race for the Mid-Florida Conference title.

Brad Markey (7-3, 1.83 ERA) started on the hill and mowed through the Viking lineup for six innings before running in to trouble in the seventh. He surrendered three runs and five hits with seven strikeouts through seven innings.

Dylan Barrow finished the win with two perfect innings, needing just 18 pitches. He struck out four. The Vikings hit just .156 against the two SF pitchers.

The Saints (30-8, 12-2 MFC) jumped out early, scoring two in the first on an AJ Mazzurco single and a double down the left field line by Trey Griffin.

SF blew the game open in the second with five runs on six hits. Mazzurco picked up his second RBI of the game on a bases loaded walk and Shane Kennedy cleared the bases on a triple to left field, putting SF up 6-0. Griffin capped the inning with a single to center.

The Saints padded their lead in the fourth with a run on a SJRSC error and another RBI single by Griffin.

Griffin led the Santa Fe offense, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Shane Kennedy was 3-for-5 with a triple, a stolen base and three RBI and Mallex Smith was 3-for-5 with two stolen bases.

The Saints travel to Sanford on Monday, April 2 for a MFC game against Seminole State College at 3:00 PM. They return home on Wednesday, April 4 when they host Lake Sumter at 3:00 PM
