LATE RALLY POWERS SAINTS PAST FSC-J, 11-6
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints fell behind 6-1 early on against the Florida State College-Jacksonville but 10 unanswered runs, capped by a seven run ninth propelled SF past the Stars for their ninth win in a row. Santa Fe is now 29-8 overall and 11-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference.
Lawrence Pardo started on the hill and struggled through 2.1 innings, allowing five earned runs. Josh Stewart pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering one run on four hits. Trevor Berry threw 1.2, giving up just one hit and Felix Roque pitched the final 3.1, scattering three hits to pick up the win.
Jacob Tillotson got the Saints on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly to score Mallex Smith. The Stars answered back in a big way with six runs in the third inning to go up 6-1.
Santa Fe chipped away at the lead, scoring two in the fourth and one in the seventh to trim the lead to 6-4.
In the eighth, the Saints unloaded, posting seven runs on four hits and two FSC-J errors. Smith singled to make the score 6-5 and two batters later Shane Kennedy doubled down the left field line to give SF back the lead 7-6. The Saints made it 8-6 on a Stars error and Trey Griffin expanded the lead with a single through the shortstop third base hole. SF plated two more on another FSC-J error to go ahead 11-6.
Felix Roque continued his domination in the ninth, shutting down the Stars to preserve the win.
Caleb Denmark finished 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI, Mallex Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, Shane Kennedy was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI and Trey Griffin finished 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Santa Fe continues at home on Saturday, March 31 against St. John's River State College at 1:00 PM.
