Baseball Cruises Past Seminole 8-2, Move into MFC First Place Tie

March 26, 2012 Contact: Scott Jamison 352-395-5616 scott.jamison@sfcollege.edu SF BASEBALL SAINTS CRUISE PAST SEMINOLE 8-2 Sanford, FL – JT Simpson (6-1, 1.75 ERA) pitched 6.2 innings of two run ball on Monday afternoon in Sanford against Seminole State College and Josh Larson finished off the Raiders with 2.1 scoreless innings to give SF (28-8, 10-2 MFC) their eighth win in a row. The victory moves Santa Fe into a tie for first in the Mid-Florida Conference with College of Central Florida (25-11, 10-2 MFC). The Saints did most of their damage in the third inning when they piled up five runs on six hits. AJ Mazzurco landed the big blow when he cleared the bases with a double to put Santa Fe up 3-0. The next batter, Garrett Greenwell, singled home Mazzurco and two batter later Kyle Buchanan plated the fifth run of the inning with a single. The Raiders trimmed the lead to 5-2 with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh The Saints answered back with two in the eighth on a Trey Griffin RBI double and a squeeze play by Lawrence Pardo. SF padded their lead in the ninth on a Jacob Tillotson RBI double and Josh Larson finished the game off with a perfect ninth inning. Santa Fe piled up 16 hits on the day. Mazzurco finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, Kennedy was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and Tillotson was 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored. The first place Saints return home on Wednesday, March 28 when they host Florida State College – Jacksonville at 3:00 PM. SF has won both games this season between the two teams.
