Saints Weekly Wrap-up: March 12-18

Baseball (4-0 on the week, 25-8, 7-2 MFC overall) The Santa Fe Saints bounced back from two losses over the weekend in a big way, racking up 17 runs on 15 hits in a convincing 17-3 victory over Mid-Florida Conference foe Lake Sumter CC on Monday, March 12. The game was stopped after six and a half innings due to the mercy rule.

On Wednesday, SF used a late inning push to rally past Lake Sumter CC for their second win in as many games against the Lakers. Drew Doty drove in the winning run with a two out double in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie.

Tim Remes led a stout offense on Friday night as the Saints cruised past Mid-Florida Conference rival St. John's River State College 13-2 in an eight inning mercy rule. The sophomore catcher finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, six RBI and a run scored to lead the way.

Shane Kennedy lifted SF to their fourth victory in a row on Saturday when he crushed a one out walk off homerun over the left field fence in the 11th inning to give SF a 7-6 victory. Kennedy homered twice in the game and finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Fastpitch (4-2 on the week, 14-17, 3-2 MFC overall) The Santa Fe Saints pulled off two late inning wins against Daytona State College on Tuesday, March 13 to improve their record to 12-15 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference.

Alaysia Miller played the hero in game one, blasting a pinch hit two run homerun in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. In game two, Amber Richardson pitched a gem and also executed a perfect suicide squeeze in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Ashley Holton for the walk off 2-1 win.

On Thursday SF pitched well against the St. Petersburg College Titans, but never got the bats going as SPC shutout the Saints in back to back contests 1-0 and 1-0.

Santa Fe gave away the first game of the double header with back to back errors in the top of the seventh, allowing the eventual game winner to score on a throw in the dirt from short stop. Both teams managed just three hits apiece.

Sophomore shortstop Ashley Holton hit a home run in both games of a double header on Sunday afternoon to pace the Santa Fe Saints past Georgia Military College 5-2 and 6-1. In all Holton had three hits, two homeruns and four RBI on the day.
