Holton Homers Twice, Paces Saints to Sweep of Georgia Military 5-2 and 6-1

HOLTON HOMERS TWICE, PACES SAINTS TO DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP OF GMC, 5-2 and 6-1 Gainesville, FL – Sophomore shortstop Ashley Holton hit a home run in both games of a double header on Sunday afternoon to pace the Santa Fe Saints past Georgia Military College 5-2 and 6-1. In all Holton had three hits, two homeruns and four RBI on the day.

Karla Claudio started in the circle game one and allowed two runs on just four hits with eight strikeouts.

The Saints (14-17, 3-2 MFC) trailed 2-0 and were without a hit until Holton blasted a two out two run homerun to right field to tie the score in the first half of the double dip.

The score remained tied at two until the sixth inning when Claudio and Erika Garcia both homered to put SF ahead 5-2. Claudio stepped back in the circle in the top of the seventh and shut the door to pick up the win.

In game two Santa Fe freshman Amber Richardson gave up a hit to the first batter of the game, but settled in and retired the next 16 batters in order.

Kimberly Booker got SF on the board in the first with a RBI groundout to score Holton. In the third, Holton struck again, drilling a homerun to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage.

In the fourth inning, SF added a run on an error and another on a Holton single. Brittney Mayhill expanded the margin in the fifth with an RBI single and Booker capped the scoring in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

The lone Georgia Military run came in the seventh off SF reliever Stephanie Cameron.

The Saints take their two game winning streak on the road to Leesburg on Tuesday, March 20 for a Mid-Florida Conference double header against Lake Sumter CC scheduled to start at 2:30 PM.
