SAINTS PULL OUT 4-3 VICTORY OVER LAKE SUMTER Leesburg, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (22-8, 4-2 MFC) used a late inning push to rally past Lake Sumter CC for their second win in as many games against the Lakers. Drew Doty drove in the winning run with a two out double in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie.
Lawrence Pardo started on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Josh Larson (3-0) threw 3.2 hitless innings of nearly flawless relief to earn the win. Only one runner reached base against Larson over three plus innings.
Shane Kennedy started things off on the right foot for the Saints in the first inning when he blasted a two run home run to put SF up 2-0 before the Lakers could record an out.
Lake Sumter answered with two runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
The Saints tied the score in the fifth with a Drew Doty homer. The score remained tied until Doty delivered the go ahead two out double, scoring Shane Kennedy. Josh Larson took care of the rest, retiring the side in the ninth to secure the win.
Santa Fe outhit the Lakers 12-5 on the afternoon. Drew Doty finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Mallex Smith was 3-for-4, Shane Kennedy was 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI and Trey Griffin was 2-for-4.
The Saints travel to St. John's River State College on Friday, March 16 for a MFC contest against the Vikings scheduled for 6:00 PM. The two teams meet again the next day in Gainesville at 1:00 PM.
