CENTRAL FLORIDA HANDLES SAINTS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY, 8-4

Box Score

Ocala, FL – The Central Florida Patriots (19-9, 6-0 MFC) continued their blazing start to the Mid-Florida Conference season, defeating the Santa Fe Saints 8-4 for their sixth win in a row. The loss moves SF to 20-8 overall and 2-2 in MFC play.

Santa Fe opened the scoring in the first when Mallex Smith scored on a passed ball. Two innings later the Patriots scored five runs on five hits and a Saints error. Two runs came by way of perfectly executed suicide squeezes.

CF added one in the third to make it 6-1. Santa Fe answered with a run of their own on an RBI groundout by Trey Griffin in the fourth, but failed to put together a big inning after starting the frame with runners at second and third.

The Patriots came right back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on three hits to make the score 8-2.

Trey Griffin tried to get some momentum going for SF when he belted a solo homerun to lead off the sixth. The Saints would eventually load the bases with one out, but a line out to center field and a great throw by the CF outfielder nailed Garrett Greenwell at the plate to end the rally.

SF managed one in the ninth, but couldn't push anymore across as CF held on for the 8-4 win.

Caleb Denmark finished 3-for-5 for Santa Fe, including a double. Drew Doty was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Trey Griffin was 2-for-5 with two RBI.

The Saints return home on Monday, March 12 when they host Lake Sumter CC at 3:00 PM.
