KENNEDY AND THE SAINTS WIN IN EXTRA INNINGS AGAINST ST. PETE, 6-4

Clearwater, FL – Shane Kennedy came up big for the FCSAA #1/NJCAA #9 Santa Fe Saints on Wednesday night, drilling a one out double in the twelfth inning, plating two runs to break a 4-4 tie with St. Petersburg College. Caleb Denmark closed out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the twelfth. The win came at a big time for SF according to head coach Johnny Wiggs.

"We needed this win," said Wiggs. "Kennedy had a big hit for us there and Denmark was super with four shutout innings. Hopefully this will help get us back to the way we are capable of playing."

The Saints (14-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning on the strength of a RBI triple by Trey Griffin, a sacrifice fly by Denmark and a RBI single by Tim Remes.

St. Pete scored one in the fifth but Santa Fe answered back with a run in the sixth when Kennedy scored on a passed ball by the Titans catcher to make it 4-1.

SPC plated two more in the sixth and one in the eighth off SF reliever Felix Roque to tie the game 4-4.

The game remained scoreless until the twelfth inning. Drew Doty started things off for Santa Fe with a one out walk, Griffin followed with a single and Kennedy stepped up and came through with what would be the game winning two RBI double.

SF starting pitcher Ryan Yarbrough threw seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. The runs were the first he has surrendered all season. His scoreless inning streak was stopped at 27. Felix Roque pitched the eighth and Denmark pitched four shutout innings to earn the win.

Kennedy finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Griffin was 2-for-6 with one RBI and Jacob Tillotson was 2-for-5.

Santa Fe hosts Tallahassee CC in a three game series this weekend, February 24 and 25. On Friday the two teams play at 3:00 PM and on Saturday finish things with a double header slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
