SAINTS STRUGGLE IN 5-4 LOSS TO PASCO-HERNANDO
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (13-4) had a rough day at the plate on Monday afternoon against Pasco-Hernando CC, stranding 15 runners on base in a 5-4 loss. SF left the bases loaded four times and failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position.
"We are really struggling right now. We haven't played well the last four or five games," said SF coach Johnny Wiggs. "We have to find ways to score runs when we have chances."
Pasco (3-3) scored three runs off Santa Fe started Trevor Berry through the first 2.2 innings. Reliever Josh Stewart stopped the bleeding and held the Conquistadors in check over the next two innings.
The Saints got on the board in the third on a sacrifice fly by Shane Kennedy to cut the margin to 3-1. In the fourth, Mallex Smith created a scoring situation when he stole second, then third and scored on a wild throw by the catcher. In the fifth, SF tied the game on an RBI ground out by AJ Mazzurco.
PHCC retook the lead in the sixth with two runs on three hits and a Santa Fe error. The Saints got a run back in the seventh on a RBI ground out by Blake Berger.
Santa Fe loaded the bases in both the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to push a run across.
"We left way too many guys on base today and it's tough to win like that," said Wiggs. "We will continue to work hard and try and get better every day."
The Saints next game is on the road in Clearwater against St. Petersburg College at 3:00 PM.
