Ft. Pierce, FL – Indian River took game one of a double header against Santa Fe College on Saturday afternoon 4-3, but the FCSAA #1/NJCAA #9 Saints bounced back to win game two 6-4 to move their record to 13-3.
"We had a tough loss in the first game, but our guys showed some resiliency to bounce back and come from behind in game two," said SF coach Johnny Wiggs. "Today will make us a better team down the road."
Santa Fe took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning of game one, but the Pioneers finally got to Saints starter Brad Markey, scoring four runs for the walk off win.
Shane Kennedy finished game one 2-for-3. Kyle Buchanan, Graham Ramos, Tim Remes and Caleb Denmark had one hit apiece.
Game two saw a reversal of the first game with IRSC taking the early lead 3-0 before coughing it up down the stretch. SF trailed by two going into the seventh and final inning. Lawrence Pardo kept the game alive when he blasted a two run homerun, knotting the score at 4-4. In the eighth inning the Saints kept the rally going and scored two more on an RBI walk by Ramos and a sac fly by Denmark.
Trey Griffin finished game two 2-for-4, Pardo was 1-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI and AJ Mazzurco was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Denmark earned the win by pitching the last two innings, surrendering just one hit.
The Saints return home Monday, February 20 for a game against Pasco-Hernando CC at 3:00 PM.
