SAINTS DEFEAT HILLSBOROUGH 3-1, YARBROUGH IMPROVES TO 4-0

Box Score

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore pitcher Ryan Yarbrough (4-0, 0.00 ERA) was lights out again on Wednesday afternoon against Hillsborough, striking out six in seven shutout innings. His scoreless innings streak now sits at 23 straight without a run surrendered.

The FCSAA #1/NJCAA #9 Saints have won eight in a row and are 6-0 at home on the young season. They have outscored their opponents 105-27.

"Ryan did a great job hanging zeros on the scoreboard for us today," said SF coach Johnny Wiggs. "We struggled to hit today and he kept us in it the whole time. He's been very sharp through his first four outings."

Mallex Smith opened the scoring for Santa Fe in the first when he scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Drew Doty. The bats went cold until the seventh inning when third baseman Graham Ramos muscled out a homerun over the left field fence for the 2-0 Saints lead.

In the eighth Hillsborough scored their lone run off of SF reliever Felix Roque. Denmark entered in relief and got the HCC batter to fly out to center with two runners on, ending the threat.

SF second baseman Shane Kennedy was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by catcher Tim Remes to give the Saints an insurance run and a 3-1 lead.

Denmark shut the door in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning, securing the victory and his second save.

Ramos was the lone Saint with multiple hits. He finished 2-for-2 with a homerun, a RBI and a walk.

Santa Fe takes to the road on Friday, February 17 when they travel to Brevard College for a game at 4:00 PM.
