Weekly Wrap Up: Feb. 6-12
Men's Basketball (1-1 on the week, 22-4 overall) Kevin Harden scored a season high 27 points on Wednesday, Feb. 8 against St. John's River State College, pacing the FCSAA #2/NJCAA #17 Saints to an 82-69 victory. Harden nailed five threes in the second half, scoring 19 of his 27 over the final 20 minutes.
On Saturday against College of Central Florida the Saints (22-4, 7-2 MFC) dropped just their second conference game of the season to the Patriots and suffered just their first loss since Jan. 7. The win for CF moves them into a tie with Santa Fe at the top of the Mid-Florida Conference standings with three games to go, but the 2-1 series win gives them the tiebreaker.
The Saints host Daytona State College at home on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
Women's Basketball (0-2 on the week, 7-20 overall) On Wednesday, Feb. 8 at home the Santa Fe Saints led the Hillsborough CC Hawks at halftime 24-22, but couldn't hold on down the stretch, falling 50-47 for their seventh straight loss.
On Saturday evening Santa Fe and College of Central Florida played dead even through the first 45 minutes of action in Ocala before the Patriots managed to pull away in double overtime for the 78-67 win.
The women host Daytona State on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.
Baseball (5-0 on the week, 10-1 overall) Sophomore Lawrence Pardo pitched five solid innings on Monday, Feb. 6 against Hillsborough CC, striking out eight in the 6-3 Santa Fe (6-1) win. He scattered five hits and surrendered just two runs on the afternoon.
For the second time this season JT Simpson shut down the Polk State College Eagles, holding them to two runs over six innings with six strikeouts on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Winter Haven. Felix Roque pitched the seventh and eighth innings and Caleb Denmark pitched the ninth. The win is the second over Polk in the last seven days. SF won 10-1 on February 1 in Gainesville.
On Friday, Feb. 10, sophomore Ryan Yarbrough shut out Indian River State College for his third win of the season.
The Saints finished the week with two wins over South Florida CC. Sophomores Lawrence Pardo (2-0) and Brad Markey (2-1) each has quality starts and the Santa Fe (10-1) offense more than pulled their weight in two big wins over South Florida CC on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. The Saints took game one 9-1 and shut out the Panthers 9-0 in game two. SF has outscored their opponents 26-1 over the first three games of their current five game home stand and have let to allow a base on balls.
Santa Fe hosts St. Petersburg College on Monday, February 13 at 3:00 PM. Freshman JT Simpson (2-0) will take the hill looking for his third win.
Fastpitch (0-2 on the week, 4-5 overall) Tallahassee CC, the newly crowned #1 team in the FCSAA poll, continued their hot start to the 2012 season, sweeping a pair of games against the Santa Fe Saints (4-5) on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The Saints will get a chance at revenge when they travel to Tallahassee on Feb. 16 for a double header scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
