CENTRAL FLORIDA OUTLASTS SANTA FE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME THRILLER, 78-67
Ocala, FL – Santa Fe and College of Central Florida played dead even through the first 45 minutes of action Saturday night in Ocala before the Patriots managed to pull away in double overtime for the 78-67 win.
The Saints led 26-23 at the half time break but CCF fought back and tied things up, sending the game to the first overtime. Each team scored seven points over the first five minute overtime, sending the game into a second overtime frame. Central Florida pulled away over the final five minutes, securing the 78-67 win and a 2-1 series win.
The loss moves Santa Fe to 7-20 and 1-8 in the Mid-Florida Conference.
Central Florida took 45 free throws to Santa Fe's 20 and the Saints were called for
32 fouls to CF's 16.
"I'm very happy with Taybreanna [Couch] and Cassandra's [Brown] effort on the glass," said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. "I thought Coney played extremely hard and did a lot of good things. I'm proud of how hard we played tonight. Things didn't turn out how we wanted them to, but it wasn't because of lack of effort."
Tiara Thompson led Santa Fe with 18 points, including four three pointers. Stephenie Coney had 16 points and eight assists, Taybreanna Couch had 12 points and eight rebounds and Cassandra Brown scored 10 points.
The Saints return to action at home on Wednesday, February 15 against Daytona State College at 6:00 PM. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
