YARBROUGH CONTINUES SCORELESS STREAK AS SAINTS SHUT OUT INDIAN RIVER 8-0

Box Score

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore pitcher Ryan Yarbrough decided the best way to win is to not let the other team score even a single run. Through his first three starts, across 16 innings, the southpaw has let to allow a run or even a walk and has struck out 23.

"Ryan was outstanding today," said SF coach Johnny Wiggs. "I wasn't sure if he could pitch any better than he did against South Florida last week, but he came out and gave us seven shutout innings. He really set the tone for us today. He is a pitcher in the true since of the word. He locates his pitches, changes speed and really makes hitters uncomfortable."

The offense pulled their weight too, led by a three hit performance from sophomore second baseman Shane Kennedy. The Saints have now outscored their opponents 75-22 through nine games.

"Offensively we continue to put pressure on our opponents," said Wiggs. "Up and down the lineup we don't give opposing pitchers a break. Drew Doty is one of our best hitters and he struggled a little bit today, but guys like Kennedy, Griffin and others picked him up and swung the bats really well."

Santa Fe (8-1) jumped on the board early, scoring on a throwing error by the Pioneer catcher in the bottom of the first. In the third they tacked on three via a RBI single by sophomore outfielder Trey Griffin and a two run homerun by Kennedy.

Griffin struck again in the fourth, knocking in Drew Doty for his second RBI of the game to give SF a 5-0 lead.

Kennedy tripled to start the fifth inning and DH Caleb Denmark knocked him in with a double down the left field line. Two batters later third baseman Graham Ramos grounded in to a double play, scoring Denmark for the 7-0 SF advantage. Griffin capped the scoring in the sixth with is third RBI of the game, knocking in outfielder Kyle Buchanan.

Freshman Josh Stewart kept the shut out intact by pitching scoreless eighth and ninth innings.

The Saints tallied 10 hits on the afternoon, led by a 3-for-4 performance from Kennedy, which included a homerun, triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Griffin finished 2-for-5 with three RBI, Remes was 2-for-3 and Denmark was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Santa Fe continues their home stand tomorrow, February 11 when they host South Florida Community College at 12:00 PM for a double header. The Panthers handed the Saints their only loss of the season on February 4. Lefty Lawrence Pardo (1-0) takes the ball in game one and right hander Brad Markey (1-1) will start game two on the mound.
