President's Hall Art Exhibit
February 10, 2012
Santa Fe Art Professor Stacey Breheny's "Welcome to My World" exhibit will be displayed in the President's Hall Art Gallery, Feb. 14 through March 15. The show features a variety of paintings Breheny has created over the past several years.
Breheny has about five different bodies of work, three of which will be exhibited in the show and include pieces such as "Colette's Woods" and "Wiggle Road," two oil-on-canvass pieces painted in a photo-realistic style.
"My work is about the places and people in my life," Breheny writes. "I do work in response to strong emotions I feel and then I try to find a visual language that best expresses what I'm responding to."
Breheny has lived in High Springs for 25 years and draws inspiration from the open fields and lonely roads that surround the area she has fallen in love with.
"I began painting these scenes in a photo-realistic style, just wanting to convey a sense of tranquility and a little melancholy that these places evoke for me. Over time, I began nudging these works in a slightly more saturated color direction," Breheny writes about her artistic style.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held at the gallery at 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. The President's Hall Gallery is located on the second floor of the Alan J. Robertson Administration Building on SF's Northwest campus; 3000 NW 83rd St. The gallery is open during normal college hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays.
