#1 TALLAHASSEE SWEEPS SANTA FE, 3-2 AND 5-1
Gainesville, FL – Tallahassee CC, the newly crowned #1 team in the FCSAA poll, continued their hot start to the 2012 season, sweeping a pair of games against the Santa Fe Saints (4-5) on Tuesday afternoon.
Santa Fe led 2-0 after a two run homer by Erika Garcia in game one of the double header but a late rally by Tallahassee, including a run in the seventh, gave the first game to the Eagles (9-3).
Karla Claudio pitched six innings for Santa Fe before giving way to relievers Cierra Miller and Erika Garcia. Miller was credited with the loss. Kristyn Barry threw all seven innings for TCC, striking out nine in the win.
Garcia finished 1-for-2 with a homerun and two RBI, Ashley Holton was 1-for-2 and Vanessa Ortiz was 1-for-3.
Tallahassee right hander Emily Smethurst pitched a gem in game two, striking out 10 while surrendering four hits.
TCC notched the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Saints answered in the third on a RBI double by Ashley Holton. The Eagles broke the tie in the fifth with two runs and added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Amber Richardson started in the circle for SF and pitched 4.2 innings. Stephanie Cameron pitched the final 2.1.
Holton, Ortiz, Claudio and Layne McDermond each had a hit for Santa Fe in game two.
The Saints will get another shot at Tallahassee CC when the two teams meet again on Thursday, February 16 in a double header scheduled to start at 4:00 PM in Tallahassee.
