SAINTS AND PANTHERS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER Avon Park, FL – The NJCAA #9/FCSAA #2 Santa Fe Saints (5-1) dropped game one of a double header 3-1 against the South Florida CC Panthers on Saturday afternoon but bounced back in a big way in game two, winning convincingly 12-3.

Brad Markey started game one on the mound and went the distance, striking out six.

SFCC struck early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and added an insurance run in the fifth on a solo homerun. The Saints managed only two hits. Trey Griffin scored the lone SF run on a sacrifice fly by Shane Kennedy. Kyle Buchanan and Graham Ramos had the only SF hits.

Santa Fe took out their frustrations in game two, racking up 12 runs, more than enough for a sharp Ryan Yarbrough. Yarbrough (2-0) started and pitched five innings, throwing only 50 pitches, 41 of them for strikes. He struck out nine and surrendered just three hits in the best outing of his collegiate career.

Jake Tillotson started the scoring for SF in the first with a solo homerun, his first of the season. Drew Doty followed with a double and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

The Saints added three more in the second on an RBI single by Tillotson, a pass ball and an RBI double by Doty. Blake Berger put SF ahead 6-0 in the third when he knocked in AJ Mazzurco.

Lawrence Pardo made it 7-0 with an RBI single in the fourth and Graham Ramos drilled a three run homerun an inning later to push the lead to 10-0. The Saints added two more in the seventh on RBI singles by Pardo and Berger.

The Panthers scored three late runs off relievers Caleb Denmark and Felix Roque. The Santa Fe pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts and just one walk in game two.

Berger finished game two 3-for-3 with two RBI, Tillotson was 3-for-3 with a homerun and an RBI, Doty was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Pardo was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Graham Ramos had a hit in each game and has now hit safely in every game this season.

The Saints travel to Tampa on Monday for a game against Hillsborough CC at 3:00 PM.
