C-SPAN's Campaign 2012 Bus Stops at Santa Fe College Feb. 1
January 30, 2012
Hop on C-SPAN's Campaign 2012 Bus when it stops in Gainesville, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Santa Fe College. The bus will set up in the Oak Grove behind S Building at the Northwest campus, 3000 NW 83rd St. The general public is welcome to visit campus and check it out. SF Provost Ed Bonahue will officially welcome the bus at 12:15 p.m.
The C-SPAN Bus is on its Road to the White House tour and is making stops across the country. It's a one-stop resource for presidential election coverage and uses touch screens, computers and iPads to show students and others how they can get involved. (Their website also has lesson plans for teachers.)
According to C-SPAN:
"When they first come on the bus they see all the technology and it kind of grabs their attention right off the bat," said C-SPAN's Jennifer Curran. "But when visitors leave the bus, they really do get a sense of the breadth of coverage that we offer."
The idea is to connect visitors to C-SPAN's public affairs programming while providing a greater understanding of C-SPAN's free resources. Students can visit C-Span's many websites, including its video library, C-SPAN Classroom, Congressional Chronicle and Book TV. Students can test their knowledge of public affairs with quizzes and learn about Student Cam and follow the Road to the White House.
Cox Communications is sponsoring C-SPAN Bus' visit to Gainesville. Santa Fe is hosting the bus as part of the Democracy Commitment and to mark the kick-off of Black History Month celebrations on campus. SF's Center for Student Leadership & Activities and the Black Student Union are providing free pizza for those who visit the bus.
Whether you're a C-SPAN fan, serious about books, or simply curious about C-SPAN's technology, you'll leave the bus informed, engaged, and more connected to public affairs.
