BALANCED ATTACK LEADS SAINTS TO CONVINCING WIN OVER DAYTONA, 88-69

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (15-3, 1-1 MFC) bounced back from a loss on Saturday to Central Florida in a big way on Wednesday night, jumping all over Daytona State College 88-69 to even their MFC record at 1-1. Five players scored in double figures for Santa Fe.

The Saints pounced early on and led by as many as 16 in the opening period. Daytona fought back and closed the margin to just five at the halftime break, 45-40. Santa Fe made 17-of-30 shots in the first half, including four three pointers.

"We did a nice job getting off to a good start tonight," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We shot the ball well and were able to stretch our lead out but didn't finish down the stretch. At the half we talked about playing all 20 minutes hard on defense, not letting them back in it due to defensive letdowns."

Santa Fe responded to the halftime speech, holding the Falcons to just 20 points through the first 15 minutes of the second period. SF scored the first seven points of the half to build a 52-40 lead and by the 11 minute mark the Saints had their biggest lead of the night, 71-47 thanks to a 16-1 run.

Daytona would get to within 16, but no closer as Santa Fe scored the last three points of the game to win 88-69.

"Our guys did a good job tonight adjusting to a number of different lineup looks," said Mowry. "We are a little shorthanded right now and it was good to see everyone give great effort tonight on both ends of the floor."

Marko Djekovic had one of his best games of the season, scoring 14 points to lead SF. Kevin Harden, Paul Stone and Brian Holmes had 13 each, altavious Carter scored 10, Matt Conway pitched in nine, and AJ Roberts scored seven off the bench.

The Saints continue at home on Saturday, January 14 when Florida State College at Jacksonville comes to Gainesville for a 4:00 PM tip-off.

"To stay in the MFC race we have to win games at home," said Mowry. "Tonight was a good start and on Saturday we need to keep it going against FSC-J. They are a very good team that will give us a bunch of different looks on offense and defense. Our guys know they have to play well to win."
