TOLEDO, OH – Brett Merritt has been named the volunteer assistant baseball coach at the University of Toledo, skipper Cory Mee recently announced. Merritt brings five-plus years of coaching experience to the Rockets’ program, and he has mentored over 25 players who have been drafted. He will work with all aspects of the Toledo program, but his primary responsibility will be working with the outfielders. “I’m very excited to have Brett join our program,” Mee said. “He is a great addition to our staff. Brett is a very good teacher and has a great feel for the game. I look forward to seeing the impact he will have on our program as he begins to share his experience and knowledge with our players.”
Merritt comes to Toledo after spending the last two-plus years as an assistant coach at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. He was responsible for the development of the catchers and outfielders while assisting with all other aspects of the Saints’ program, which spent a majority of last season as the top ranked junior college squad in the country. “I’m extremely honored to be named the new assistant for UT,” said Merritt, whose father, Bob, is a member of the Ohio High School Coaches Hall of Fame. “Coach Mee and his staff have an energetic and positive approach with a clear direction for the future. I’m very appreciative for the opportunity.”
