SAINTS STAY HOT WITH WIN OVER TALLAHASSEE, 57-50
Marianna, FL – The Santa Fe Saints battled the defending FCSAA State Champion Tallahassee CC Eagles for the second time this season on Friday afternoon in Marianna at the Panhandle Classic, and for the second time defeated them, this time by a score of 57-50. The first victory over TCC came in Gainesville on November 11, 64-59.
Neither team found their shooting touch as both shot under 30% from the field. The difference in the game came in the form of only seven Santa Fe turnovers and at the free throw line where SF outshot the Eagles 14-11.
The Saints led 30-22 at the half and built the lead to 48-33 with seven minutes to go. Tallahassee chipped away and cut the margin to three with under a minute to go. Sophomore guard Altavious Carter was fouled twice in the final seconds and knocked down all four free throws to ice the win.
“This was a hard fought, defensive minded game by both teams,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry. “We built a nice lead in the second half, but TCC did a nice job fighting back to make it close at the end. Altavious really stepped up and did what he needed to do making those pressure free throws.”
Brian Holmes led the way offensively for SF, scoring 12 points to go with 6 rebounds and five assists with only one turnover. Keshaun Hamilton turned in another strong game, scoring 11 points with three rebounds, Junior McLeod finished with nine points and six rebounds and Altavious Carter had six points all on free throws and six rebounds.
The Saints continue in the Panhandle Classic on Saturday, December 3 against Gulf Coast State College at 1:00 PM EST.
