SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

NORTHWEST FLORIDA DEFEATS SANTA FE, 79-50

Niceville, FL – Coming off two upsets of nationally ranked opponents, Santa Fe faced their third in a row in NJCAA #4 Northwest Florida State, but this time came out on the short end 79-50.

Northwest Florida used a tough trapping defense to stifle the Saints offense for most of the game, holding them to just 21 points in the first half and 50 for the game.

"We didn't have an answer for their trap," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We have to hit shots once we break the trap and we didn't do that today."

The Saints turned the ball over 22 times and shot just 29% from the field. Stephenie Coney led SF in scoring with 14, Tiara Thompson had 11 points and five rebounds, Shanice Clark scored 11 points with nine rebounds, and Stephanie Edwards had a team high six assists.

"This was a tough three game stretch," said Stebbins. "I think our team grew up a lot over this last week. Hopefully we can use this to continue moving forward and getting better."
