TORRES SIGNS WITH FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY
Gainesville, FL – Bianca Torres wasted no time choosing which school she will be attending next year, signing a national letter of intent with Florida A&M University on the first day of the early signing period, Monday, November 14. She will be eligible to compete with the Rattlers during the 2012-13 season.
Torres will join a FAMU team led by 21 year head coach Veronica Wiggins. The Rattlers finished the 2011 season 26-26 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Torres, a starter for the Saints her freshman season, is not only a talented softball player, but also a very good student. She is planning on attending veterinary school at FAMU.
"Bianca always comes ready to practice hard and play hard, and she has the same work ethic for her school work," said SF Coach Chris Ahern. "As a Bright Futures student, she maintains a very high GPA, and between her academic and athletic awards, she has earned a full ride at the next level. She is to be congratulated for her diligence, hard work and determination to be better all the time. She's a great role model for all student athletes. We feel lucky to have her at Santa Fe."
As a freshman, Torres hit .325 in 52 games played with an on base percentage of .398 and 21 runs scored.
"We are so pleased for Bianca in her signing with FAMU. She is an exceptional student and athlete and will be able to contribute right away to the team next year," said Ahern. "Bianca is the all-around type of athlete: she played some second base last year, and saw a lot of time in both left and center fields."
