Four Baseball Players Sign with Upper Division Schools

FOUR PLAYERS SIGN WITH UPPER DIVISION SCHOOLS

Gainesville, FL – Four members of the Santa Fe Saints baseball team have signed national letters of intent with NCAA schools as of the first day of the early signing period on Monday, November 14. (pictured L-R: Markey, Doty, Tillotson, Greenwell)

Brad Markey (Virginia Tech), Garrett Greenwell (Oral Roberts), Drew Doty (University of Tampa), and Jacob Tillotson (University of Tampa), all inked their LOI's to play for their respective schools during the 2012-13 season.

Markey, a transfer from Georgia Tech University signed with Virginia Tech University and will play under head coach Pete Hughes. The Hokies finished the 2011 campaign with a 30-25 overall record and an 11-19 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Last season at Georgia Tech, Markey pitched in 5.1 innings, striking out four with a 5.09 ERA. He finished the fall 2011 season at Santa Fe as one of the team's most consistent pitchers.

Greenwell committed and signed with Oral Roberts University of the Summit League. ORU is coached by Rob Walton and competed in an NCAA Regional in 2011 and finished the season 39-22 overall and 21-7 in the Summit.

As a freshman at SF, Greenwell hit .323 with six doubles, two homeruns and 16 RBI.

Doty and Tillotson both signed with NCAA Division II powerhouse University of Tampa. UT is led by longtime head coach Joe Urso. The 2006 and 2007 National Champions finished 2011 with a 36-17 overall record and a 16-8 mark in the Sunshine State Conference.

In his freshman season at Santa Fe, Doty led the team in batting average at .381, doubles with 17 and hits with 74. He also hit six homeruns and drove in 46 runs.

Tillotson, a transfer from the University of Florida, sat out last season and took a redshirt, giving him three years of eligibility at Tampa.
