SAINTS CRUISE PAST ST. THOMAS JV IN SEASON OPENER, 100-58
Gainesville, FL – Sophomore point guard Brian Holmes (pictured) led five Santa Fe players in double figures, scoring 20 points, as the Saints cruised past St. Thomas University JV 100-58 on Thursday night.
"It was nice to get on the floor and open the season in front of our fans tonight," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "Overall I thought we played well, but there are some things we need to work on in order to get better."
After a sluggish first few minutes of the game, the Saints went on a 15-0 run midway through the first half to take a 26-13 lead. They continued to put the pressure on St. Thomas and stretched the lead to 53-29 at the half.
The second half was much of the same as SF poured in the points, building the lead up to 96-48 with four minutes to play before finishing off the 100-58 win.
The win was a complete team effort for SF with 10 players logging double digit minutes and 10 players with at least two points. Junior McLeod scored 18 for the Saints to go with six rebounds, Josh Wiseman added 14 points, Paul Stone had 13, Kevin Harden chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds and Marko Djekovic led the team with nine assists.
The Saints continue in the Cabot Lodge Tip-Off Classic tomorrow, November 4 when they host RISE Academy at 2:00 PM. The Santa Fe Women play Palm Beach State College at 6:00 PM
