SF and UF Honor Dr. Brown
October 25, 2011
Sociology Professor Naima Brown received SF Student Government's Faculty of the Year award during the UF Homecoming Education Celebration last week at the Reitz Union.
"I was so honored and humbled to be selected for this award," Brown said, "first and foremost because the nomination came from my students, and secondly because it was presented at UF, my alma mater."
SF Student Government's Faculty of the Year program recognizes Santa Fe's most outstanding faculty. Students are asked to nominate faculty who have made a difference in their lives and contributed to their successes at Santa Fe.
Although all nominations remain confidential, Brown found out that not one, but several students nominated her.
"I was humbled by the fact that they all took the time to write essays about why I deserved this award," she said.
The award was presented by Julian Childers, External Director of Student Affairs at SF. Under Childers' direction, this is the first time SF's Faculty of the Year award has been offered in cooperation with UF's Homecoming Education Celebration.
To add to the award, UF provided Brown with two tickets to an upcoming performance at the Center for Performing Arts.
"I really love what I do, and to be honored for doing something you love is just the icing on the cake," Brown added.
