"Winds & Classics" Concert, Oct. 20
October 19, 2011
The Instrumental Suite of the Fine Arts Department presents "Winds and Classics," the annual Fall concert performed by the Santa Fe Winds Thursday, Oct. 20 in the new Fine Arts Hall at teh Northwest Campus.
This year, the Winds will perform works by Gustav Holst ("Mars: The Bringer of War from The Planets"), Clifton Williams ("Fanfare and Allegro"), Samuel R. Hazo ("....Go"), Karl King ("The Trombone King"), Harold Bennett ("Military Escort"), Dimitri Shostakovich ("Festive Overture") and more!
Writes Director Dr. Steve Bingham: "There are some recent additions to tomorrow's lineup. The Percussion Collective with guest artist Lauren Holder on violin will be performing the Hovhaness Sextet for violin and six percussionists; under the direction of Dr. Brian Holder. We have also added "Hymn to the Fallen" by John Williams that features the Santa Fe Singers under the direction of Lynn Sandefur. This arrangement allows for the singers to sing over the accompaniment of the winds in a very stirring tribute to all who have served in our military and given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life.
"New songs added are Sean Taylor's arrangement of 'Gabriel's Oboe' for brass ensemble, and our hold-over selection from "Light up the Night."
