Professor Rodney Brown Choreographs for Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
October 17, 2011
SF's Choreographer-in-Residence Rodney Brown recently completed his second choreographic commission for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC.)
Founded in 1968 by Dayton, Ohio native Jeraldyne Blunden, DCDC is the oldest modern dance company in Ohio and one of the largest companies of its kind between Chicago and New York City. DCDC boasts the world's largest collection of African-American choreographed work and is one of the world's largest contemporary dance companies.
Brown's new work, The Nearing, will make its world premier during the 43rd DCDC season entitled Frameworks, which is a special season for DCDC as it celebrates the 40-year career of the company's artistic director.
"As an artist and scholar, I believe staying actively engaged in our fields, outside of the academy, is deeply tied to our relevancy inside of it," said Brown. "Our classrooms are spaces in which we pass, not only the history and legacy of our work, but also re-envision its concepts for a new and changing world. How wonderful it is for Santa Fe students to be a part of this legacy!"
