Make a difference for wildlife this Halloween

Purchase candy made with sustainably harvested palm oil

Palm oil is a vegetable oil that is found in the fruit of the African oil palm tree, and is used in most of foods we eat, including candy! When you purchase candy for this year's Boo at the Zoo one simple way you can help wildlife is by supporting the companies or products that use sustainable palm oil, for example:

• Nestle – Baby Ruth, Butterfinger, Crunch Bar
• Wonka – Sweetarts, Laffy Taffy, Nerds, Pixy Stix
• Kellogg's – Rice Krispie Treats

When palm oil is produced at certified sustainable plantations and mills, HCV (high conservation value) areas are protected, which includes areas where orangutans and gibbons are found.

When palm oil is produced NON-sustainably through destruction of HCV rainforest and peat swamps, this destroys critical rainforest habitat for orangutans, gibbons, elephants, tigers, sun bears, rhinos and many other species.
