Gallery Talk with Judy Rushin, Today

October 12, 2011

Artist Judy Rushin will be on campus tonight at 7 p.m. for an informal Gallery Talk with our students in the Santa Fe Gallery in M-147. Rushin is fascinated with marginal spaces (such as lean-tos, children's forts, co-opted and temporary emergency architecture) and the ways people and communities use these spaces. Ranging from scale models to massive constructions, Rushin's work embodies observation of cultural forces and a sense of humor about the human condition. Her work is distinguished by a strong sense of compassion and generosity developed in her years as an artist, writer, collaborator, community activist, teacher, and mother.

Her work has appeared in venues across the US and in Korea and has been featured twice in New American Paintings. She currently lives in Tallahassee, where she is on the faculty at Florida State University's School of Visual Art, Theatre and Dance.
