Behind The Veil: A Brief Exploration of the Hijab in Jordan, Sept. 13
September 11, 2011
Join Dr. Naima Brown at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 in S-29/30 for a screening of "My City," a 24-minute Jordanian film directed by Abedalsalam Al-Haj. Dr. Brown met the filmmaker and obtained a copy of the controversial documentary while learning about women in Jordan this summer.
The film chronicles the disappearance of the female body in Jordanian society. Through interviews with males and females in his native city, Al-Haj shows how customs have evolved from women once being placed on pedestals to now being hidden behind veils and walls.
A brief discussion of women's rights in Jordan will follow the film screening.
In the meantime, please view Dr. Brown's online photo journal on her experiences and observations in Jordan.
