Discover the World Beyond Color

September 1, 2011

The President's Hall Art Gallery is hosting "Beyond Color," a beautiful exhibit of charcoal paintings by artist Sandra J Hadley, through Sept. 28.

Hadley uses charred wood, kneaded eraser and paper to create complex works that have been likened to fine photographs.

"In a world that is increasingly dependent on technology to perform even the most mundane tasks, it is important to remember that the simplest materials can produce much beauty, mystery and power," Hadley said. "I use charcoal to explore and celebrate the world beyond color."

The exhibit consists primarily of charcoal paintings on paper. In addition to a series of portraits, the show includes still-life and natural imagery pieces. Without the visual impact of color, people, places and objects can be seen in unexpected ways that create an opportunity to rediscover the familiar.

"I sincerely hope that my work provides students, faculty and visitors to the Santa Fe President's Gallery with an unexpected, thought-provoking and enriching experience," Hadley added.

The President's Hall Gallery is located on the second floor of the Administration Building. The gallery is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays when the college is in session. For more information, contact Gallery Director Jayné Grant at 352-381-5464 or visit the Gallery webpage.
