"Urban Agriculture, the Comp Plan, and What You Should Know"
July 15, 2011
- What: FREE public forum sponsored by Grow Gainesville, the urban gardening network! If you live in the city limits, you can keep chickens and grow a garden in your front yard. But if you are in Gainesville and happen to live within Alachua County, you can't do either, legally. That might change soon! Alachua County Growth Management Planner Holly Banner will present information on proposed changes to the Alachua County Unified Land Development Code relating to agricultural uses. The intent is to support and promote a stronger local food system with improved access to healthy, affordable, nutritious food. This will be achieved by expanding the list of allowable uses to include more urban agriculture, such as backyard chicken keeping, community gardens and farmer's markets. Holly will run through the proposed changes and take your questions. This promises to be a lively evening of sharing!
