Julie Crosby Advises SF Students Enrolling in Online UF Degree Programs
June 29, 2011
As Santa Fe embarks on a groundbreaking partnership with UF, along with it comes a new face in the UF at Santa Fe Center (aka the Gator Den).
Julie Crosby began working at Santa Fe on June 1 as the center's full-time coordinator. Her main duties are to recruit and advise students in five online degree programs offered by UF and SF.
"I love that we are collaborating with UF to find better ways to serve students, one step at a time, fitting the pieces of the puzzle together," Crosby said.
Crosby is the go-to person for our students interested in four of UF's online bachelor's programs, including Business, Health Education, Sport Management, and Applied Physiology and Kinesiology (Fitness and Wellness). She can also direct students to the appropriate contact for other UF degree programs, and funnels interested students to SF's bachelor's programs, including the online BAS in Health Services Administration.
Originally from Putnam County, Crosby moved to Gainesville seven years ago with her husband, Scott. They have three daughters ages 26, 22, and 15. In her free time, Crosby enjoys exercising and reading. Her most recent favorite book is the historical fiction, "Shadow Country," by Peter Matthiessen.
Crosby's entire career has focused on education. Before coming to SF, she worked for UF at the Florida Museum of natural History as the Volunteer Program Coordinator, where she recruited and placed volunteers in about 18 different areas. Many of those volunteers were SF students.
Working for a community college is dear to Crosby's heart. Before completing her master's in Education at UF, she got her start at St. Johns River State College in Palatka.
"I've always wanted to work with students at the community college level," Crosby said. "Community colleges really do a lot to serve rural area residents and provide educational opportunities for those who might not otherwise have the chance."
Crosby is thrilled to see that Santa Fe's philosophy of serving students matches with her ideals.
"It really is a big deal for me to finally make it to a community college," Crosby added. "I'm right where I have always wanted to be - serving students."
