CLAPSADDLE NAMED NJCAA ALL-AMERICAN
Gainesville, FL – Following a record breaking, award winning season at Santa Fe, pitcher Malcolm Clapsaddle was honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association on June 8 when he was named Second Team All-American. This honor goes along with his FCSAA State Pitcher of the Year, Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year, First Team All MFC and FCSAA First Team All-State awards.
He set numerous school records in his one season at SF, concluding what coach Johnny Wiggs considers the best individual pitching season in Saints history.
"What a great honor for Malcolm which is so deserved," said Wiggs. "He had a super year for us and was so consistent throughout the entire season. You could always count on him to go deep in the game and win the big one for us. No doubt the greatest single season of pitching in Santa Fe baseball history."
Clapsaddle finished his sophomore season with an 11-2 mark, a record for wins in a season. He struck out 103, also a school record, and walked just 25 batters in 89.1 innings pitched. Opposing players hit .201 against him and managed just 13 extra base hits in 15 starts.
He has signed a scholarship with High Point University (High Point, NC) for the 2011-12 season and was also drafted on Wednesday, June 8 in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft in the 47th round by the New York Mets. He will have until August 15 to decide whether to sign a contract with the Mets or attend High Point.
