CLAPSADDLE AND GRIFOL SELECTED ON THIRD DAY OF MLB DRAFT
Gainesville, FL – Sophomore pitcher Malcolm Clapsaddle, the FCSAA State Pitcher of the Year and Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year, capped a record breaking season at Santa Fe in 2011, getting selected by the New York Mets in the 47th round of the MLB First Year Player Draft.
Clapsaddle broke numerous SF records in 2011, including most wins in a season (11) and most strikeouts (103). He finished with an 11-1 record, a 1.81 ERA and just 25 walks in 89.1 innings pitched. He inked a scholarship with High Point University last month and will have until August 15 to decide whether to sign a contract with the Mets or attend High Point.
Freshman first baseman Andrew Grifol followed him up when he was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 48th round.
Grifol concluded his freshman season at Santa Fe with a .313 batting average and five homeruns with 38 RBI.
