Summer Alternative Break Trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., June 24-28

June 5, 2011

Sponsored by the Office of Civic Engagement and Service, from June 24-28, two advisors (Jessa Carpenter and Julie Garrett) and eight students will embark on a journey of service, traveling to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to assist with tornado relief efforts. (Click on the photo for more photos taken on May 31 in Tuscaloosa.)

More than 4,000 families have been affected or displaced by the recent storms and they will join the organizations that are in Tuscaloosa making a positive impact on their lives. This trip will include labor-intensive projects such as supply sorting and distribution, debris cleanup, and construction. It will be hard work, but rewarding and impactful.

In many ways, this break may change participants' lives. Students interested in participating should turn in a completed application packet by noon on Tuesday, June 7, to the S Building front Ddesk, inside the Center for Student Leadership & Activities.

Students must have a 2.00 GPA to apply and also must be enrolled in 3 credit hours of summer classes (in any summer semester). Students need to be clear in their application regarding why they believe they should be chosen to represent Santa Fe. A committee of staff members will choose the participating students. Students will be notified of their status regarding the trip by June 9.
