President’s Hall Art Exhibit Showcases Professor’s Talent

May 18, 2011

Santa Fe Art Professor Valerie Aslakson-Jennings’ “My Life” exhibit will be displayed in the President’s Hall Art Gallery, May 31 through July 13. The show features a variety of works Aslakson-Jennings has created over the past several years.

“My art is inspired by my life and the world around me,” Aslakson-Jennings said. “My pieces express roles and experiences, and translate landscapes and relationships in a non-literal way.”

The pieces on display, all some form of collage, range from lithography (the oldest piece in the collection) to oil painting (the newest piece), and run the gamut in between, including wall sculpture and drawings.

“My images are based on collage, pulling various elements together. That seems to be a good metaphor for life. Life is multilayered and, often, unrelated elements come together to make sense,” Aslakson-Jennings added.

The President’s Hall Gallery is located on the second floor of the Alan J. Robertson Administration Building on SF’s Northwest campus, 3000 NW 83rd St. All exhibits are free and open to the public during normal college hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays.
