NORTHWEST FLORIDA HANDS SAINTS 11-3 DEFEAT AT FCSAA TOURNAMENT

Lakeland, FL – The Northwest Florida State College Raiders jumped on the #1 Santa Fe Saints early in their FCSAA State Tournament round one matchup on Saturday afternoon and never let up, defeating SF 11-3 in eight innings.

The loss means the Saints (35-10-1) will face either Indian River or Polk State tomorrow, May 8 at 1:00 PM in an elimination game. Sports Radio 850 AM WRUF will cover the game live, and www.psblive.com will have live streaming video.

State Pitcher of the Year Malcolm Clapsaddle (11-2) started on the mound for SF and labored through seven innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts. The defense didn’t do him any favors, committing two costly errors.

The big blow for NWF came in the seventh inning when Panhandle Conference Player of the Year Danny Collins blasted a three run homerun to make the Raider lead 8-2.

The Saints scored three runs on eight hits but failed to string anything together.

Jay Laurienzo hit a solo HR in the second inning, his 11th of the season, Trey Griffin drove in a run in the third with a two out double and the final Santa Fe run came in seventh on an RBI ground out by Jordan Turner.

Trey Griffin was the only Saint with multiple hits, he finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

SF will try and bounce back tomorrow when Ben O’Shea (8-2) takes the hill in an elimination game at 1:00 PM.
