School Supplies Needed for Kids Studying in Ghana
April 29, 2011
Mattie J. Rush is graduating from Santa Fe College tonight. But before she leaves, there is just one more thing that she wants to do - and that is to keep her promise.
In the summer of 2010, Mattie, along with five other SF students traveled to Ghana with Dr. Naima Brown on a study abroad tour.
While there, the group volunteered at an elementary school in the village of Kokrobite. Mattie's heart went out to the underprivileged children and she promised that she would send educational supplies back to Ghana.
For the past year, Mattie has been collecting educational supplies from the surrounding Gainesville community. This week, she set up a table outside the bookstore at Santa Fe to encourage students to donate before the semester ends.
In just a few weeks, Dr. Heidi Lannon will lead a study abroad tour to Ghana and she will take with her the materials that Mattie J. Rush promised. This is just one of the many ways that Santa Fe College is adding value to the lives of our students and enriching the global community.
If you would like to send supplies to Ghana, please contact Mattie J. Rush at mj_rush85@yahoo.com to arrange for pick-up. You can also drop off supplies to Allison Nyamuame's office in B-217 by Friday, May 13.
